Car Brake Servicing saving Lives
Your brakes are the most important safety-critical system fitted to your vehicle it is recommended that they are checked each time you have a service – here at KIS Autocentre Limited it will be done automatically whenever we have your vehicle, when brakes make sounds such as rubbing or grinding these are distress signals in such an event you will need to take action immediately to prevent further damage.
The vehicle breaking system consists of many different components. The main components includes a master cylinder, servo, brake callipers, cylinders, disks, drums, pads and shoes, all these are linked by a series of brake hoses and pipes containing brake fluid, this gently slows down and stops the vehicle when the brake pedal is pressed.
It’s essential that they are inspected regularly to ensure they remain in good working order we offer highly skilled and fully qualified engineers to do this for you. Brake wear occurs more persistently in vehicles that are used mostly for shorter journeys
If you think that your brake pads are worn or you have a suspicion that there is a sticking on the brake disc or a problem with the brake’s hydraulics then you need to bring your vehicle to us we offer a brake check facility that gives a clear indication of the condition of the brake pads, brake disks or the braking system. Our highly qualified technicians will assess wear on brake pads, shoes, brake discs and drums ensure that your vehicle does not leave our garage without brakes that are fully functional and repaired to the highest possible safety standards.
Car Anti Freeze / Brake Fluid / winter check
Regular car servicing helps avoid costly repairs and prolongs the life of your vehicle. While safety is important all year round, there are certainly some vehicle maintenance jobs and safety checks that are specific to chilled air and winter driving conditions that are a good idea to check into before we're deep in the season.
In addition to the added perils of winter driving it is important to undertake an antifreeze and brake fluid change. Antifreeze helps your car’s cooling system operate efficiency and protects the radiator from corrosion. You need to replace worn-out antifreeze to avoid expensive radiator repair or replacement. Brake fluid also degrades over time as it absorbs moisture during its life in your car. Its performance diminishes and reduces your braking performance. Sludge can accumulate and block the valves inside your ABS system, create leaks in your wheel cylinder and callipers and cause expensive repairs or replacement. We can flush your coolant and brake systems and replace the worn out fluids with new antifreeze and brake fluid. These two services will keep you car running at optimal performance.
Our winter checks will include the following
• Anti-freeze – Check the coolant strength
• Cooling system – Check the system for leaks, cooling fan operation and heater output.
• Battery– Check your battery is holding its charge.
• Starting and Charging – Check the operation of the starter motor and the alternator output
• Lights – Are clean and in good working order, plus head light alignment is correct.
• Auxiliary drive belts - are in good condition, to insure correct operation of engine ancillaries.
• Wiper Blades and Washers – Check the condition for a clean sweep.
• Tyres– Check to ensure a good condition and at the right pressures.
• Air Con – Test your air con to make sure it’s de-misting your screen effectively.
• Engine Bay Levels - Check & top up levels.
Car Steering and Suspension
Whenever it comes to steering problems, it is always safer to fix the problem when you first notice it as steering problems can quickly become very severe.
The two most common types of steering are manual steering racks and power assisted steering racks. Both types can fail and in such cases will need replacing.
There are many causes for the steering mechanisms to have a problem. One cause for a steering malfunction is the development of a hole or leak in the power steering module. Normal wear and tear is the main culprit of leaks.
A more common steering problem involves a car "jumping" when it hits a pothole or other uneven segment in the road. It will feel as if someone has pulled the wheel to the left or right after hitting the pothole. Another common problem comes with the vehicle either being difficult to steer, or having too much play in the steering wheel. When driving, you may notice the vehicle pulls or you may have trouble keeping the vehicle travelling in a straight line. This could mean several problems, but more often than not it is a problem with the alignment. Tyre alignment being one of the many services we offer here at KIS Autocentre Limited.
The suspension system of a vehicle contributes to the vehicle’s handling and braking systems. Suspension units require regular care because of the nature of the work they do for your vehicle and regular servicing of suspension forks is advised.
We will check over your springs, shock absorbers and linkages and offer the best advice for you and your vehicle.
Worn shock absorbers are the most common fault with vehicle suspension. Driver discomfort is the most obvious sign of the problem. You might also notice
• Reduced braking efficiency
• Reduced road holding
• Increased wear on tyres and other mechanical parts of your vehicle
• Reduces comfort
Any faults should be repaired quickly. A suspension fault that is not dealt with quickly can lead to very costly repairs in the long run.
We are able to diagnose and carry out all suspension repairs professionally and quickly.
We provide a service that is value for money and We never carry out a repair without a client’s permission and once a fault is found we will provide a clear quote so that the you can the decide.
Cambelt Replacement
Don't leave changing your timing belt until it's too late
The critical areas of a combustion engine be it petrol or diesel are controlled by either a timing belt or timing chain. Most cars today are manufactured using cam belts rather than chains. The job of either a belt or chain is to drive and maintain the camshafts and crankshafts in synchronisation.
In the event of a failure or Should one of these belts snap excessive engine damage may occur, resulting in high labour costs to resolve the issue and in some extreme cases extensive engine repair or even replacement. As these belts have a limited life span. Your owner’s handbook will recommend that the belts be replaced at certain mileage intervals if you do not have this available please contact us and we can check for you.
Clutches & Gearboxes
Our experienced qualified technicians can fit clutches and gearboxes to all make and models of vehicles at competitive prices. Clutch problems can occur at almost any mileage and for a wide variety of reasons
Some symptoms of common clutch faults are:
• Slip - a number of factors can cause this, but the end result is the same. Vehicle speed is lower than normal compared to engine speed, eventually leading to a total loss of drive.
• Drag - Most likely to be a cable fault or an internal fault. 1st and reverse gears are the first to be difficult to select.
• Judder - Vehicle shudders when moving off. This could be due to a simple gearbox mount failing or a fault within the clutch itself.
Unfortunately sometimes the gearbox or flywheel can fail. We are able to undertake these repairs too.
Car Engine Starter Motors Car Alternator
Every car has a small motor that is called the starter. The starter is the mechanism that helps engage the engine and starts the car. Once in awhile the starter has a tendency to stop working and even go bad. A good indication that a starter motor may have to be replaced is if when the key is turned in the ignition the engine starts too slowly or not at all A few things that accelerate the breakdown of a starter are constant cranking of the key, turning the key when the car is already on, and an electrical short in the wiring system.
We will assess your vehicles using our top of the range equipment and if your starter motor has to be replaced we will provide you with a quotation before any work is carried out.
Your car’s electrical power originates in the battery. Most people assume that when a car won’t start that the battery is bad. The battery may be okay, but the alternator isn’t doing its job. Your alternator must provide sufficient power to charge the battery. When an alternator doesn’t provide the voltage, your battery can’t hold the charge that it receives. The battery will gradually drain and cause the electrical systems powering the car to stop running. Your alternator can fail due to high temperatures, prolonged driving or a bad diode. Car alternator testing can keep you from becoming stranded because of a malfunctioning alternator. Testing can also save you money on the purchase of a battery that you may not need.
